If you've read anything of this blog, you'll know that we kind of haunt Jalan Padungan. This very characterful and down-to-earth street, situated about 15 minutes' walk from our flat, is lined with small shops and eateries.
We'd always felt the early morning ambience would add an extra dynamic to photos, and we finally got round to trying this idea out today.
I love the way the strange light -- a combination of dawn and neon -- gives things a really different appearance. The shutters and gates still say night and quiet and privacy, but the various businesses setting up (not to mention the birds going crackers in the trees overhead) are already speaking of new days, fresh activity, and public faces.
We ended up at the Hong Kong Pau Cafe for breakfast:
We'd tried their laksa once before, on the very first day of the year, in fact. (On the day that is "page 1 of 366", as I'd seen it expressed on Facebook somewhere. Little did we all know it was going to turn into a horror novel...)
I think that last one must have been the MYR 8 version. The MYR 10 [GBP 2] version we ordered today came in enormous bowls, and along with the customary prawns, omelette strips, and shredded chicken, contained a chicken leg and a generous helping of cockles. Yum.
