As the previous post has made clear, we spent a goodly part of this third set of away-days on the beach...
But there were other enjoyments, too.
Having marvelled at the comparatively rare wooden shophouses in Simunjan, we marvelled some more when we got to Lundu...
More generally, it's an attractive little place, with many photogenic corners:
Sematan, further along the coast, offers yet more wooden shophouses (seriously, I'm starting to wonder if that "rarity" information is correct):
And here is its river, about to enter the sea:
Finally, there's another very pretty little temple here, dedicated to Mazu:
It's not difficult to find lunch either in Lundu or Sematan. Both have plenty of noodle places doing Sarawakian specials like kolo mee; Sematan also has some seafood restaurants, although we settled just for Hokkien mee.
I've already noted that we stayed at the Sematan Palm Beach Resort. Rates there include breakfast and dinner, and the food turned out to be very good. Well, admittedly, it's not ideally suited to low-carbers, but hey, every now and then a little break-out is OK...
Dinner consisted of four generous dishes, including two of vegetables.
And both dinner and breakfast brought kuih or desserts... All those things we've not had for ages... Bubur cha cha (a sweet, coconutty soup); exquisite banana-leaf packages of sticky rice; chewy little orange squares; that soft layer pudding that's made with coconut...
Almost certainly rounder, we headed for home this morning after a last walk on the beach.
We attempted a slightly different route, but were forced to retreat:
So then there was just the last lunch to enjoy.
On our very first post-quarantine away-day, we ate at Azzlyn Seafood in Telaga Air. So we decided to revisit on our way home (less bloody this time). It was good again.
The photo doesn't really do it justice, but in the middle we have cangkok manis with egg (nice big leaves, and crispy onion); on the left is the fried squid (really tender in its crunchy coat); and on the right are the prawns (easy-to-extract, as they have had their jackets sliced open ready for you to break into) cooked in sambal (very fragrant with lemongrass):
We felt we needed to do a bit of a circuit of the village after all that:
And, as though we had not been self-indulgent enough already, our route back to the car took us past the shake shop:
So, another little trip nearly over. Just the breakfast outing to look forward to now...
