A somewhat unusual lady lives just down the road from our building. We often hear her on our way past (she likes to belt out a Chinese version of Jingle Bells). And occasionally we see her out and about. She uses a wheelchair as a kind of walker. Slung from its back is a big plastic bag, from which she draws useful things like lighters, or scraps to feed those loose dogs that I so dislike.

She was burning some candles outside her house as we passed by this morning, and I have this little fantasy that her little ritual helped to lift our day...

As I explained in my monthly review, I've been bumping along the bottom a bit recently.

But today was like a ray of sunshine. How so? Well, it contained a number of excellent things:

1.  Eating pork-ball porridge at Min Hong Kee

2.  Walking in Taman Botani:

3. Having one of my periodic affogati at Indah, one of our favourite Kuching cafes

4. On the way home, coming across some more old stuff that was new to us (but more on that in another post).

So... a really good walk. Lovely weather (the perfect combo of sunny, bright, and breezy). Mostly in open spaces where we could dispense with our masks. Dry pavements. No dogs. Bliss.

Let's hope our neighbour keeps lighting her candles...
