Our self-curated heritage trail continues, albeit often with little information to go on.
Impossible to ignore is the raft of "beautification works" currently under way on the northern side of the river.
More generally, plans are afoot for the little kampungs over on that side. We're told by the minister that "the heritage value found in this area will continue to be maintained", even as its tourism potential is developed, and it is slated to become "a mandatory destination for tourists visiting this city".
Some 2,640 households from 13 kampungs are also going to be rehoused (as I discussed back here).
In the meantime, here's some more of Kampung Boyan as it still looks at the moment:
I've previously featured photos of the renovation under way around the museum complex.
Walking through the other day we spotted a graveyard that has somehow hidden itself from us all this time. Housed in St Thomas's school grounds, it apparently includes some of Kuching's oldest graves, and is part of the "spirit road" that we first became aware of last year.
Not far away, this -- I don't even know what it is, but it's also in the school grounds -- remains a complete mystery to us:
The Reservoir Park lake beds, meanwhile, are busy greening over. Not sure when this one's going to be finished either...
We're intrigued by the old shophouses on Jalan Mendu, but again -- no information:
This one, though, is less obscure. Not long after I mentioned the 1931-built police station on Padang Merdeka, they started to renovate it. Now it's super-bright and shiny:
