Nigel had a birthday this week. As it's a Big Birthday, a three-day celebration was not enough, and we've gone for seven. Well, maybe longer. We'll see.

Among the treats for the week was durian ice cream. The local supermarket that appeared a little while ago does not tend to sell many of the things we regularly buy. But it does have the marked advantage of being near enough to get ice cream home from (while it's still in a frozen condition, that is...). Now, did you know that if you wrap your (sealed) pot of durian ice cream in two plastic bags, and put it in the freezer, you will still be able to smell it when you open the fridge? No, we didn't either...

Other treats:

Dragonfruit fool. My invention. Dragonfruit and mascarpone. Delicious

spanishomelette
Spanish omelette at Boca Ria

It's a nice thing to sit eating Spanish food, while listening to flamenco music that has Kuching's loudest cicadas as its backing group

Lemon cake from Indah

In amidst all the celebrations, however, are distinct currents of anxiety. Sarawak's (and indeed Malaysia's) covid numbers are not getting any better. Over here, our schools have closed again for a fortnight. And the situation in India is indescribably awful.

Sarawak has now started vaccinating our cohort, but quite when they'll get to us remains to be seen. The app is still stuck stubbornly on "registration", and none of the boxes for "assessment" are showing any signs of being ticked.

And so, somewhat soberly, we turn to the gallery of the week:
