On Monday we had one last job to complete before climbing back in our box until our flight.
It's been a bit hard to go low-profile again after those wonderful few days of freedom. (If you missed all my excited posts, start here, and work your way forward.) But it's all in the good cause of passing our pre-plane covid test, and successfully flying off to see our family.
On the subject of covid, Sarawak's R rate is now down to 0.78; the positivity rate for tests is down to 14.6% (yes, I know that's NOT good, but it's much better than it's been...); and even though they're not testing asymptomatic contacts, the case curve has a steep enough downward direction to give us some cause for hope... Please... May we have cracked it this time...
Interstate travel (for the vaccinated) was allowed from Monday (11) this week. Whether this will set the covid menace off on another rise is, of course, yet to be determined. But there's a bit of a buzz about Kuching again, I think. Businesses are very much looking forward to welcoming travellers.
The week has brought us into contact with a couple of heritage stories, documented here.
Otherwise, it's been mostly about food...
The Ang Hor Cafe has a stall that not only does very interesting takes on the classic kolo mee (ours, below, came with three-layer pork, meatball slices, and little fishballs...) but also does the most amazing yong tau fu. This is a Hakka dish that consists of tofu, vegetables, and various fish or meat pastes. I'd not had this for ages, and we'll definitely be fitting in another round before we go...
Another "other round" took the form of those delicious "bursting meatballs" from the Wan Xiang Noodle House. (I talked about them back here.) I didn't get a photo that time, so here they are in all their glory. We had the "white" hand-made noodles this week, to go with this delicious soup:
We had both these yummy things delivered, and it is interesting to note how using the Grab app has broadened our range of consumption. Back in the days when we frequented stalls in person, we tended to keep going back to our favourites. But the app enables you to seek out different things with relative ease. OK, it all goes belly-up occasionally, but all in all the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
The rest of the week's gallery:
The picture at the top, by the way, shows the flowers at the end of our road. There's always a splash of colour here, so they're a nice little symbol of hope.
