A gallery in three parts:

1.

There are a lot of things I don't like about winter. When you combine the need to figure out how many layers of clothing you require to deal with any given day's combo of temperature, wind, and likelihood of precipitation; the need to be super-careful on icy or muddy surfaces; the constant need to pee; the constant need to blow your nose; the fact that the sun (when it's there at all) is so low that you're always squinting, often blinded -- well, it's all just a bit exhausting... And the cosy places that usually offer mitigation, such as toasty pubs and cafes, just seem too risky at present.

But taking a step back, I have to admit that we've been pretty lucky so far. When you think what winter can throw at you, we've really been INCREDIBLY lucky so far. We've been able to do a lot of things.

Plus, there's no denying that it can be very, very beautiful:

Clay Lane. Should be labelled Mud Lane... Still, it's nice that this rural route is still pretty much within the town boundaries

We've walked past these so many times, but have only just got round to cataloguing them:

Meanwhile, a big job has broken out on the river at Newark. Having fixed up Nether Lock, the Canal and River Trust is now undertaking maintenance on Town Lock:
