We found our first visit to Kuzguncuk so pleasant that today we decided to go back for more.
In a rerun of last time, we first took the boat to Uskudar:
And then, again as last time, we walked along the seafront to Kuzguncuk.
But this time we went beyond the junction with Icadiye Avenue, in order to take a look (at least from the outside) at the impressive Armenian church of Surp Krikor Lusavoric, which sits right next to Kuzguncuk Cami:
Then back to the ever-leafy realms of Icadiye Ave:
Last time we saw the Beth Yaakov Synagogue. This time we also found its Beth Nissim counterpart:
Lunch next. At a jolly little pavement cafe. Everyone knows menemen, a classic Turkish egg dish. Not so well known, perhaps, is salep, a mildly creamy hot drink made from the dried, powdered root tubers of certain kinds of orchids (though, to be honest, I'm guessing most cafes use pre-packaged versions). Topped with cinnamon, it's really addictive (reminiscent of a very thin custard):
Then, as last time, UP... By a different route, but still UP...:
And then, as what goes up must come down, we descended, via the Fethi Ahmet Pasa woods:
Finally, home again on the ferry:
Another grand day out.
