Our time in Miri continues to be very pleasant. (We travelled, you will remember, via Daro, Mukah, and Bintulu, arriving here a couple of days ago.)

Day 10: Wednesday 13 July

Hornbills were a highlight of our last trip to Miri, and we were looking forward to returning to Piasau Nature Reserve to see more of these beautiful birds. Juliet, the female we photographed in 2019, is sadly no longer with us (meaning that patriarch Jimmy has lost two mates in the course of his life). But earlier this year, he found Valentine, and everyone is hoping that the nest in the hollow tree will soon welcome some more baby hornbills.

A very convivial morning...

Another of today's pleasures was jelly mooncakes, gifted to us by a new friend. Light and refreshing, yet full of flavour, these were an awesome tea-time treat.

For our last evening, we returned to Ming Cafe, to repeat the recipe of Monday evening (a couple of plates of snacks, a few beers: very pleasant)

Day 11: Thursday 14 July (Part 1)

Last Pullman brekkie... Sigh... I'll miss these...

Last Miri walk:

Council workers were milling round it yesterday, and we assumed they were going to saw the poor thing up. But no -- today we saw that they've stood it up again, with a few props for support. Go, go, go, little tree! Root yourself in, and flourish all over again!

A quick noodle lunch. Checkout. And then Miri was behind us... Which is kind of sad...
