We're kind of in a holding pattern at the moment, as we await Nigel's surgery, which is scheduled for this coming week. It's all a bit surreal, to be honest, but we've deliberately kept ourselves on the trot, so as not to have to think about it.

On our National Day morning walk (31 August), we reconnoitred the renovation of the Impiana Hotel. Looking promising:

And there's a fair amount of building and painting, old and new, that we've not recorded to date:

stpeters
St Peter's progresses

jubilee
They seem to be going crazy with the bamboo in the Jubilee Gardens

And here's our current leader

murals
Spotted this one on the way back in the car last week

klwarisan
Not sure why we've never photographed this before, as it's a very cute building

And food...

On the recommendation of one of the (many) Grab drivers who have taken us to various hospitals over the last week or so, we visited this really awesome eatery. Rows and rows of totally yummy dishes:

Another eating place of note this week was Heng Heng, where we went for dinner with friends:

oysters
These are the crispy oysters for which they are renowned, but they also served excellent lamb and vegetable dishes

Other treats of the week:

tehcspecial
Windmeal's Teh C Special (especially good because this version wasn't too sweet)

bigpau
A big pork pau from Hock Hai Dim Sum is quintessential comfort food

keefui
Kee Fui mooncakes from our kind landlady

black
"Black gold beads"

And finally, today's little expedition took us over the bridge and back:

buaya
There's a house right behind this sign... You can't help wondering how the real estate agents would talk their way around this one...

cats
Kuching's kucing convention

rumahkopi
Rumah Kopi, Jalan Padungan. We're often to be found here...
