As I mentioned in my brief review of September, things are still pretty slow and steady with us at the moment.

But we did get to know three new cafes this week...

The Garden Cafe, part of the Bing! chain, is a really nice place to have lunch. It's spacious and airy, with lovely views out to greenery, and a garden centre right alongside:

Mee Sin is a traditional kopitiam on Jalan Padungan. I'm not sure why we've not visited before, but as it is consistently thronged (always a promising sign in foody Malaysia), we decided it had to be good. And it was. Excellent beef noodles, which came with a tasty soup:

And there's a new cafe on Carpenter Street! It's a small, laid-back space, but the steady stream of young people passing through took Nigel back to his student days, and the coffee and cake were excellent:

Weather-wise we're in the "transition" period at the moment. Basically it rains all year round in Kuching. From December to February, it rains like crazy. From June to August, it rains less, but these days there's no real dry season. And the rest of the time we're transitioning from one monsoon to another, so no-one knows for sure what's it going to do at any given point, but mostly what it's going to do is rain...

This was how it looked on the riverfront yesterday morning. And HOT with it. Minutes later, it was pouring with rain, and we were running for cover

marathon
Tons of rain for the marathon runners this morning, and it has pretty much rained all day since

And the rest of the week's gallery:

We think he's a baby monitor lizard, but quite what he was doing by the side of the road, we don't know
