When I wrote my last post, the outcome of Malaysia's election was still unclear. Now, however, we have a new prime minister, and today was declared a holiday so that we can all celebrate!

Needless to say, we also have lots of post-election complexity...

Moving on to less weighty matters, we're organizing travel at the moment, an activity that's very welcome, but also mops up lots of time. The bulk of Thursday, for example, was spent at the Vivacity mall, mostly buying winter gear, but also going wild in Daiso, and having a nice lunch at Madam Tang's Cafe (definitely try the smoked duck laksa).

Another time sink has been opened up by the antics of Nigel's health insurance company. On this subject I have no words that aren't really, really nasty, so I'll leave it at that.

Meanwhile, Christmas is ever more visible:

This, at Vivacity, is beyond question my favourite tree so far

But the mega-tree at Plaza Merdeka is pretty good too

Our favourite Cat, however, seems caught in the midst of a confusing transition...

Every season, of course, is food-and-drink season in Kuching:

windmeal
Windmeal's nasi lemak with pork chop -- quite an unusual combo

ubi
An awesome "ubilicious" platter from Indah (with a tapioca leaf and cauliflower mixture instead of rice). This one is the tempeh version

earthlings
Always a pleasure to visit Earthlings

coffee
Pandan coconut ice-blended... Definitely one to have again

And, to close, the rest of the week's gallery:
