As in our other capitals, we have been able to try wines made from grape varieties that are new to us:

refosk

barbera

Slovenia is VERY into its wine, and almost every cafe will have wine and other alcoholic drinks on the menu alongside the coffee and tea.

Our tastings this time have been limited to two -- not so much because we were being sensibly abstemious but because we didn't realize that supermarkets in Ljubljana close on Sundays...

There has been some pretty nice cheese, too:

smoked1
A very good smoked one

smoked2

herbed
And this is basil and chilli

But the absolute food highlight for us here has been the discovery of struklji. These are layers of rolled dough filled with sweet or savoury ingredients, and they're absolutely delicious.

We went two days running to Moji struklji Slovenije, near the central market. They do a great-value combo lunch consisting of soup, bread, and a struklji for EUR 8 (MYR 40). It's tasty and sustaining:

The meat-filled struklji. At the top is the cottage cheese and tarragon one

On the Friday we were there, this whole area was alive with food stalls and happy eaters. The stalls weren't there the following day, though

Yesterday we went back to the same cafe for brunch:

Blueberry struklji

And totally divine orange and chocolate

Seriously, I would come back to Slovenia for the struklji alone...
