It was 2019 when we last went to Serian (as opposed to through Serian, on our frantic dash home after testing positive for covid last year).
That first time, we went on the bus, which took 2.5 hours. They were still building Serian's bit of the Pan Borneo Highway, but they were already expecting more traffic, and land prices had already increased.
Today, we got our little hire car to take us there. It took 1.25 hours. This bit of the Pan Borneo is now completed (as indeed it was last year), and the traffic in Serian is now insane... There are cars everywhere...
First up, lunch, from a couple of the stalls at Ola Cafe. Two big bowls of chicken porridge, two big cups of tea, and five pieces of pisang goreng done just like it should be, hot and crispy on the outside, banana-gooey on the inside. Cost: MYR 14 (GBP 2.40).
Next, Taman Danu, the little lake that sits on the edge of town. We were still suffering from smoke pollution at this point, but it was brighter here than it was in Kuching, and definitely less smelly. The park is a little impacted by the road, but it's still pretty:
After that, on to Ranchan Recreational Park, just a couple of kilometres away. Another lovely slice of Bornean nature:
I never tire of the rich textures of these places:
On the way home we stopped off at Coffee Factory:
Grand day out. Pity about the hospital bit at the beginning...
