After my funk of last weekend, I've had quite a nice week. Once the decision was made ("wait till February"), it was as though postponing taking action also freed me to postpone worrying. It's all still definitely there in the recesses of my mind, but it's not popping up and intruding every five minutes as it was in the early part of the month.

So, we have been continuing our culinary research:

The Jalan Carpenter Curry House does nice, crispy roti

New coffee place, also on Jalan Carpenter

Rumah Kopi, a very regular haunt

Awesome porkball noodles from Lao Jie Fang. Really, everything about this dish was beyond good

The Eden Garden Cafe, a new food centre that's recently opened up near us. Here's how it looks when we walk past in the early morning...

There are lots of options throughout the day. Mee jawa and chicken satay makes for a good brekkie

sotong
As does the char kuay teow squid

By way of comparison, this is the mee jawa and chicken satay from Fu Shin Kwang. Also very tasty, with a gravy that is less sweet than you get with most versions

Apart from food (sometimes you wonder in Kuching whether there IS anything apart from food), we had our boat lute event. And the Malaysian Nature Society were back in action last week with another interesting talk, this time on the way plate tectonics affect our region:

It was also haircut week. A new place, which I would definitely recommend (they do what you request, do it well, and the price is quite reasonable -- I'm not sure what more you can ask for):

Ghost Month has begun, and there's something which may or may not be connected with that happening at our local temple:

And they are doing something with the flagpole base, but we don't know what:

Yesterday was another Car-Free Sunday, and this time, we were there in time for the band (its brisk marching tunes a sad/happy reminder of someone else who loved brass bands):

These rather sweet little chaps have appeared around the venerable old trees of the Padang. Ears are obviously a challenge, but they're very cute
