On this gloomy Remembrance Day, with the cloud low over the hills, we did a little circuit of Duffield, our neighbouring village.

There's a bit of history here, but for the casual observer, "handsome" is the word to reach for, I think. There's plenty of that archetypal Derbyshire stone, and the valley setting is very fine:

bighouse

tree

manor

church

valley1

bridgepub

valley2

bracken

houseonhill

Back at "our" weirs, in Milford, the river is still looking quite dramatic:

weir1

weir2

weir3

And in our garden, this bush seems to redden by the day:

redbush

It's a beautiful season, for all its whims and wiles.
