Kuching is an especially fun place to be for Chinese New Year.

The guy above was still being assembled when we hit the VivaCity mall during our first week.

Now he's swooping and soaring.


Since we've been here the cat at the end of Jalan Padungan has assumed his New Year garb.


And, again at VivaCity, a phenomenal acrobatic lion dance unexpectedly came our way yesterday.

It's a really impressive combination of athleticism (the poles are high, and far apart) and character-acting (note all those cat-like moves and poses, and the adorable way the eyelids and ears work). No wonder everyone wants a photo at the end...
