There's an "arts, culture, and lifestyle" festival going on here at the moment. It's called What About Kuching (WAK), and we made our first foray into the long list of exhibitions and events today.
Ramsay Ong Liang Thong was born in Kuching in 1943. He has worked with a number of media, including batik and bark (from the wild breadfruit tree), and he has travelled pretty extensively, drawing in ideas and techniques all along the way. The exhibition is entitled "Driven by Inspirations: My Artistic Journey", and that pretty much sums it up.
I loved his work:
Also on show was a little collection called Dreams, and another celebrating the work of Kuching's film photographers (no, not movie photographers, as I erroneously thought for quite a while, but rather photographers who work with film -- yes, that old stuff we mostly don't bother with any more).
I also really liked the space. Location X is an old supermarket, and the slight air of dilapidation and the vivid green outside add plenty of atmosphere.
Looking forward to more...
