For two days running we've found ourselves on the north shore of the Sarawak River.
1.
Yesterday, after a routine cancer check (no bad news -- so happy...), we took a cab to the Sarawak State Library.
This is a wonderful resource, and now that we're members (two patient library staff helped us do battle with the new computerized enrolment system), I hope we can build it into our schedule on a regular basis.
There's a nice cafe, the grounds are lovely, and the reading areas are airy and spacious. What's not to like?
We walked back as far as the river.
We crossed in one of the little ferries, but were then overtaken by a real doozer of a thunderstorm. We waited it out at a coffee shop for a while, but finally had to admit defeat, and take a Grab the rest of the way home. The sky continued its tantrum for quite a while longer.
2.
Today we did another version of a north-bank walk we've only done a couple of times before.
In the past we've got all tangled up with the early-morning traffic heading for the eastern bridge, but this time we did the circuit the other way round (so as to miss the rush hour a bit).
We started with the ferry-boat, turned right along the bank (past the usual pretty houses and little shops), crossed the bridge, and turned back towards town, sticking to the main road, where there's pavement pretty much all the way.
This timing also has the advantage that you can call in for a cup of Liberica at the Borneo Black Bean Cafe on Jalan Pending.
(I'm puzzled as to whether there's any relationship with Black Bean Coffee on Jalan Carpenter. It should also not be confused with Borneo Coffee on Jalan Tabuan or Borneo Delight on Jalan Wayang... Any which way, the coffee is great.)
