Today we climbed the Ladder of Kotor. Not all the way to the top. Just as far as the ruined Chapel of St Ivan. This looks over to the huge fortress that dominates Kotor.

Note that you can't enter the fortress this way -- well, not unless you're way more acrobatic than we are. If you want to see inside the fortress walls, you need to pay EUR 8 per person, and walk up a steep set of steps, probably with lots of other people.

Personally, I way preferred our experience. We set out before sunrise. The views were superb, constantly changing as the sun climbed with us. The path was very doable, zigzagging up quite gently, and we had it completely to ourselves until almost the end of our descent. And as we sat outside the chapel having our breakfast sandwiches, it was blissfully quiet -- the profound quiet that only mountains do.

Probably pictures are the way to go at this point:

Great walk. Coffee needed at this point, and Letrika does a good capuccino:

You can walk quite a sizable chunk of the walls around the old town, and it costs nothing, so we did that next, meeting many adorable felines on the way:

And on the way home we were sucked in by these beauties from Cattarissimo... Well, we had climbed a giant ladder...

We'd given ourselves just three nights in Kotor, because it's not extensive, and we thought we'd exhaust its possibilities fairly promptly. But -- as with all the other three-night places (Banja Luka, Travnik, and Mostar) -- we could easily have stayed longer.

Hopefully, there'll be another opportunity in the future.

In the meantime, tomorrow we're off to Bar.
