We've very much enjoyed our time on Labuan. It's a very friendly place, laid-back and unhurried. The traffic is not too thick, so most roads are pretty walkable. And given that nowhere is that far, it's also easy to get transport out of town (and back) via the Grab or Maxim ride-hailing apps.
Food is not a problem, whether you're eating out or catering at home. And there are several very decent coffee places, where you can linger over a book.
In terms of "sights", you could probably do it all in a day if you hared round. But we're travel tortoises, and like to do things slowly, with lots of restorative pauses.
Some of our favourite things:
Not surprisingly, the beaches are lovely:
Labuan's duty-free status is not what it was, but still, duty-free stores abound. We weren't in the market for alcohol or tobacco, but chocolate is a little cheaper than elsewhere, and we were able to replenish our nut stores at a lower price than usual:
The Guang Fu Gong Temple, in the middle of town, is very picturesque:
There are also a few museums on Labuan, which are worth a few minutes of your time, especially as they're free:
There's an interesting walk in this area, which promises to take you past some other bits of industrial heritage. This time we weren't equipped to do it. Next time, I hope...
And to close:
Tomorrow should see us heading off to Limbang. But we'll take with us very fine memories of this supremely easy-going little island. It has been a pleasure.
