Two factors made us head for Semenggoh again today:

1. We were told, when we visited three weeks ago, that the fruiting season is likely to begin early this year (because of all this rain we've been having), and when there's fruit in the forest, the orangutans (understandably) don't bother showing up for the handouts, and you don't get to see them.

2. Another free Grab ride had come our way, and the voucher needed to be redeemed before the end of the month.

So, this morning, we consulted the weather forecast, deemed it as good as it gets these days, and headed back to Semenggoh.

It was another really lovely experience. We saw four orangutans this time, all with their different characters.

She's Mas's mother, and when you're a mum, you don't get to keep your bananas to yourself for long...

Off they go...

This is Ganya, who's a powerful young male:

They are just so acrobatic...

Below is Jubilee, currently lurking in the background. One of the rangers told us he's a bit scared of Ganya, who is not that good about sharing his bananas. So Jubilee generally waits for his own supply:

But when he gets them, he certainly knows what to do with them:

It's such a privilege to see these animals...

Oh, and by the way, I forgot to record last time that Ritchie, the challenger of George, the only orangutan I got to see way back in 2006, has now been pushed from his perch by rising young males. He keeps himself to himself these days.

Such is life. You rise. You fall.
