Things have been pretty busy in Newark since we returned from Boston two weeks ago.
All three of us sat up to see in the Year of the Tiger, which we fervently hope will bring us less anxiety than the previous two animal years have done.
And all three of us not only watched the opening of the Winter Olympics (timed to coincide with the first day of the Chinese spring), but also marked the occasion with a Chinese takeaway from Yummy down the road (not the sort of Chinese we get at home, obviously, but there were really excellent flavours in our spare ribs, pork egg foo yong, and duck with ginger and spring onions -- definitely goes in the "would order again" category).
Meanwhile, future-proofing the lock gates continues:
But in the midst of all this futurism, we've also been keeping an eye on the past. The other day, one of our urban walks took us down Wellington Road, which boasts a really impressive set of Victorian red-brick villas. Today we returned to take some pictures:
