The rain is seriously cramping our style at the moment... SO much of the wet stuff... And it's not even the rainy season yet.

It has also been Cleaning Week. These don't come around as often as they should, to be honest, so when they do, they suck up a fair amount of time.

All of which means that, apart from marking the 25th anniversary of living outside the British Isles (which we did surreptitiously, so as not to attract the attention of the avenging angels who seem to have been overly interested in our celebrations recently), we have accomplished even less than usual this week.

There have been some food highlights, however. (When are there not food highlights in Kuching?) I forgot to photograph the dry (as opposed to soup) bak kut teh from Go Fun Kee, but it was very flavourful. As was the pan mee with handmade noodles from Shan City, which I did snap. No mushrooms, unfortunately, but otherwise excellent: chewy noodles, crispy ikan bilis, tasty broth:

This rather gorgeous dragonfly kind of stole the show while we were having dinner with friends at Top 10 Food Court:

But the food still deserves a mention, especially the assam fish.

And this morning's two-part breakfast should go up in lights. We'd walked out past the Rock, but we were still a bit early for the Sunday breakfast place we usually frequent out there, which is Toast Bread. So we sniffed around to see what else we could find, and happened upon the Kwong Hup Cafe, which turned out to do the most fantastic lei cha (a dish consisting of chopped nuts, seeds, tofu, and vegetables, served with a herbal soup). They even offered a no-rice option:

By the time we'd finished that, Toast Bread was open, so we decadently rounded off with coffee and Portuguese egg tarts... Which were crisp and buttery, and really everything they should be...

Otherwise, the What About Kuching festival is happening again (we haven't had one since 2019, for obviously reasons). One of the many little exhibitions on offer is the "yarn-bombing" of Jalan Padungan:

So, not too bad a week really, for one that contained the twin evils of rain and cleaning...
