Today, as we were enjoying our ang chow kampua mee at Foochow Estay (a festively coloured dish, it has to be said), a little team of diminutive singers set up right alongside us, blasting out a rendition of Jingle Bells. Aaaargh, I HATE Jingle Bells... But it was for charity, so we coughed up, hoping they wouldn't linger long. They didn't.

Bah, humbug...

More to my taste is this fascinating story about the fungal origins of the Santa myth...

Food gifts are exchanged pretty much all year round in Kuching, so there was nothing especially Christmassy about the prezzies our landlady brought on Saturday. Yellow rambutan and durian from her mother's garden, and some amazing wild honey from the bees in her own garden...

We've never had honey quite like this. It's sweet but also tangy -- like ready-made honey and lemon. Deliziosissimo...

For our Christmas gift needs, our good friends at Indah have really turned up trumps:

cookies
Cookies! Choc chip, calamansi, and -- more unusually -- an amazing laksa flavour, that leaves you with a lovely warm glow

Christmas cake and shortbreadmen

granola
And Indah's prezzie for us! These guys are SO lovely...

Also on the food roll of honour this week:

-- We didn't know that Petanak Market has lots of stalls open in the evening. But it does. And we had a great meal from this one. The highlights were the ultra-crispy little fish, and the oyster pancake, but the salted egg pork and the veggies were good too.

-- Also worth mentioning was the kolo mee from Ah Wee on Jalan Padungan. We dived in here right after our annual blood tests. As we normally have brekkie at about 4.30, and it kills us to fast until 8.30, we were very happy to fall upon the food. So there's no picture...

And finally, the rest of the week's gallery:
