But the big news is that Sarawak turns 60 this Saturday! Independence from the British came on 22 July 1963, on the understanding that the state would become a founder member of the Federation of Malaysia in September that same year.

A BIG programme of celebrations is planned, and the city is already preparing with a vengeance:
