Things are trundling along quite nicely again now, with the blips of recent weeks behind us (for the moment anyway).
As well as our trip to
Stutong Market, and our adventures with
fruit-wrangling, there have been lots of other Good Things.
The early morning is still my favourite time:
But later walks have their advantages too. This is the one we did yesterday:
The day before was Malaysia Day, so there are plenty of flags still a-fluttering
Things are definitely happening again on the new Indian temple
Objective: The restaurant at the Kuching Buddhist Society
This place was recommended by a friend, and the food is indeed really good. This is mushroom black vinegar mee pok. Very tasty, and only MYR 4. It's also a good chance to revise your Chinese numbers: You order, and then you wait for your number to be called out :)
Vegetarian laksa. You can choose your noodles; the broth is really good; and mushrooms and tofu make up the substance
Will definitely return for the "fast food", which starts a bit later
After brekkie, you can call in at the place of worship next door, which was pretty busy yesterday
There's been plenty of cultural stimulation on offer in Kuching in recent months. Yesterday's contribution was a talk organized by the Friends of Sarawak Museum on the culture of the
Punan people group. Another reminder of the unique diversity of Sarawak...
And then there are the natural wows...
We had no idea, but our clever naturalist friend tells us these are snail eggs... Who knew snail eggs looked the pink ones in the liquorice allsorts...?
And this morning, totally serendipitously, we came across this young monitor lizard, having fun with a puddle
The river was flowing strongly on our way back (they must have opened the gates of the barrage). There were all sorts of whirlpools and other interesting effects
On Sunday I came across another
beautiful poem by Maria Popova. I won't quote from it, as you need to read the whole thing, but it moved me enormously.
Some weeks you really feel you live in an amazing world, and this week has been one of those.
