We had one of those serendiptously themed days today.

Everything was pink...

It started with my mee sua for breakfast. This is a Foochow dish, and the full name is red wine chicken mee sua. Mine came from the Fu Hua Cafe, on Jalan Chan Chin Ann, right opposite the Foochow Association building.

This is a relatively new eatery, and we were visiting for the first time. I can confidently predict it won't be our last time, however, because the mee sua was spectacular. As it arrived, a customer who was leaving commented: "You've come to the right place. This is the best one in Kuching." I can find nothing to disagree with there.

The key ingredient in Foochow red wine chicken is glutinous rice wine (and it seems the lees are often included too).

This gives the broth a really unique taste. Someone passed me a tray of condiments, but I really didn't feel it needed anything else. The chicken was poached to perfection, and you get a nice, satisfying egg in there too.

Breakfast bliss...

After this propitiously pink start (and a cup of coffee while we waited for the worst of the rain to abate), we took a different route to the Library. And came across these amazing candy-striped pink rocks:

A quick internet search has so far yielded absolutely no information about these. It seems they just sit there, looking pretty.

The Library has revolving exhibitions of Sarawakiana. The current one features orchids. Pink, of course.

We selected our books, had lunch in the cafe, and said hello to the bear (he is not pink, but he's so cute that you feel he should be):

All up, I'm basking in a rosy glow of contentment...
