A lot of our normal city routes are currently knocked to pieces by the paraphernalia that accompanies the dragon boat races/long boat regattas:
Here they are, practising
So we've been checking out alternatives. One morning, we headed off through Jubilee Park, which we rarely do in the early hours, and were rewarded by good views of the lantern and interesting colours:
The lantern as the morning lightens
We've been missing Reservoir Park, which has been subject to extensive renovations for
absolutely ages. So it was really good to see that things are at last starting to shape up over there:
We now have not only
letters but also a fountain and a nice new sculpture
The red bridge has been spruced up, and some new pavilions added
They've done a kind of watermeadow thing with the top lake, which is quite a nice idea
And so to the rest of the week's gallery, starting with the food and ending with the politics:
Up to now I've always singled out the mee sua (Foochow red wine chicken) from
Fu Hua. This one, from Choon Thian, which comes with a marinated mushroom and pickled ginger, is also excellent
Tasty tofu and wanton soup from the place where we usually get the char kuay teow, except that day the char kuay teow lady wasn't there. We did, however, see the old guy we'd not seen for ages. We don't know each other's names, but we often used to talk. He was born in a house on Jalan Padungan many, many moons ago, and he passionately Believes In Walking. And the other day we saw the old guy who waves to us from the window. We'd hadn't seen him for a while either, and had been wondering... But there they still are. Go, old guys!
This was awesome: Rainforest fried rice from Kantin
And an excellent pandan and lemongrass drink to go with it
Last week's Sunday morning walk
Today's Sunday morning walk was rained off... It's evil out there
We're into election season here in Malaysia, so forests of flags are appearing everywhere
