Our goal, on returning to Sarawak, was to do a trip out of town every week. All our moving activities temporarily put paid to that aspiration, but we got back on course this week.

At some point, when we've finished spending money on the flat, we'll hire a car or a motorbike to get to some of Sarawak's difficult little places. But we haven't reached that point yet, and at the moment we're still in economy mode.

So today's trip involved, once again, the bus to Bau (which has now gone up to MYR 9 return).

I don't know what was up with the timetable today. The 8.20 turned into the 9.00, and it was a different vehicle. The normal Bau bus was in action in the afternoon, but it left at 13.50 instead of the expected 14.40.

Having covered the Wind Cave back in January, our objective today was Bao Ling Shan cave temple. (Just a little further down the road is the Fairy Cave, but this is closed until 2020.)

The leaflet from the tourist office in Kuching promised buses along this route, but (after a fortifying second breakfast) we decided to walk (which was a good thing, as no bus materialized in either direction).

It's 5 km one-way, and you walk along the road, which is never the best arrangement. But it's not too busy; some stretches have pavements or verges; and there are birds, butterflies, and views.

The temple is not extensive, but it's very picturesque. Outside the cave are many Buddha images; inside there's just one.

We returned well pleased with our little outing, and re-inspired to do more.
